Way Back Wednesday Song of the Day- Circling the Circumference- The Trash Can Sinatras (1990)
The Trash Can Sinatras are a Scottish band that I was in love with my sophomore year of high school. I love this album- Cake. They had a couple more after it, but I never got into any as much as this one. I think they’re even still touring… I missed them last time they were in town. They have that jangly guitar sound that I love, and it has only just occurred to me that there’s perhaps a bit (quite a bit) of The Smiths influence in there. Anyway, I loved their melodies and their very clever lyrics… some of which I’m still discovering.
OK, confession, the link has absolutely nothing to do with Coldplay, but that was the first thing I thought when I saw these amazingly beautiful photos. The photographer catches a “daily levitation”… “jumping” photos done in a unique, whimsical way. Check it out! Thanks to anthropologie for the link!
So. My neighborhood is still without power, phone and internet. I had to come down and stay with my parents till it comes back on because I was losing my mind. They had a large bottle of wine waiting for me and sidewalk chalk plus unlimited tv for my daughter. Amen
Gpoy Have I mentioned the power is out since Saturday and I had to throw out the whole contents of my fridge and freezer?
Hey! I hope you see this… had to reblog because there’s no way for me to respond to it, and I can’t seem to find an ask box on your tumblr… Sorry to hear that! Best of luck with everything!
Happy Friday Song of the Day- Sweet Disposition- The Temper Trap
I know I’ve posted this one before, but it’s been a while, and I just heard it again for the first in forever the other day. This song was goose bump inducing live at ACL last year. Happy Friday, everyone! Hope those of you on the East Coast stay safe from Irene! x
ACL Artist Song of the Day- Where I’m Going- Cut Copy
I’m still not sure how I feel about Cut Copy. Zonoscope is OK, but not my favorite; I can’t muster up much enthusiasm for them just yet. They play a Saturday afternoon set, that I’ll most likely check out, mainly because there really isn’t another act at that time I’d like to see. Perhaps their live show will blow me away. ;)
Song of the Day- Point Me At Lost Islands- Tired Pony
I’m back earlier than expected! I never realized how much I need the internets in my life. It’s kinda pathetic really. Anyway, Been listening to this song quite a bit lately, reminding myself how much I love this album. Enjoy!
We’re having a bit of a Laura Marling moment surfing through youtube, and we found this. The fantastic Jolene by Dolly Parton covered just brilliantly by Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons. Oh enjoy this one.
This is seriously fantastic.
Jolene (Dolly Parton cover)- Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons
Thanks for the luck and for asking! :) It went pretty well. I really hadn’t talked to my friends in a while, so there were some awkward silences, but for the most part, it was wonderful to see them again, and we did some good catching up, and had fun, and made promises (we can hopefully keep!) to stay in better touch in the future.
Coldplay Saturday Song of the Day- Life in Technicolor ii
This song never fails to make me happy. It’s less than a month til I get to see the boys at ACL, and I am getting more excited by the day. It hadn’t even occurred to me until someone mentioned it on coldplaying that we might be the first audience to hear the new single, Paradise live, as it comes out just 4 days before the fest. Can.Not.Wait!!!Hope you’re having a colorful Saturday. xo
ACL Artist Song of the Day- Texico Bitches- Broken Social Scene
Broken Social Scene are a Canadian Indie Collective, whose line-up has included Amy Millan (Stars), Emily Haines (Metric) and Leslie Feist, at various times. They play a Sunday set on the Bud Light Stage, sandwiched between The Airborne Toxic Event and Fleet Foxes. I’m looking forward to getting to know this band better… so far I’ve liked everything I’ve heard from them!
I’m meeting up with one of my college roommates and another friend from college tonight. They’re in town for a wedding. It’s been at least 10 years since I’ve seen them, and I’m simultaneously nervous and excited to see them. We haven’t exactly been great about keeping in touch, so I worry about our ability to keep a conversation going, but then, we’ve got drinks and the fact that it’s just a couple of hours to help us out with that. Wish me luck.
