Curve Away

I'm Jen, a 30-something, music-loving mommy living in the coolest city in Texas.

About this blog:
Music, life, and more music. I love all kinds of music, but my taste seems to be more alternative/indie/folkish these days. That said, my favorite bands are as mainstream as they come. Coldplay and Snow Patrol feature heavily on this blog, so if you're not a fan of them, you may want to avoid me on Saturdays and Sundays.

I also have a health/fitness/exercise blog: move-eat-behappy.tumblr.com . Check it out if you like. :)

My musical preferences, according to my last.fm: I'm into indie, alternative, rock, folk and acoustic, including:
Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Band of Horses, Mumford & Sons, The Strokes, Death Cab for Cutie, The Swell Season, The Beatles, Tired Pony, Arcade Fire, R.E.M., Muse, The Avett Brothers, Stars, The Civil Wars, Metric, Ra Ra Riot, Travis, Noah And The Whale, Freelance Whales, Quiet Company, Florence + The Machine, Two Door Cinema Club, Vampire Weekend, Iron & Wine, The National, U2, Blind Pilot, Keane, Andrew Bird, Editors, Damien Rice, Ray LaMontagne, Phoenix, Glen Hansard, Fleet Foxes, The Shins, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, The xx, Feist, Broken Bells, The Temper Trap, Spoon, The Sundays, The Black Keys, English Chamber Orchestra, Imogen Heap, Regina Spektor, The Cure.

Saw TDCC Tuesday night for the 5th(!) time. My concert buddy and I got there just before the opener, Robert DeLong went on. He was not my favorite. But, we found a decent spot under the trees, close enough to feel like we were part of the crowd, but far enough back that I could get a pretty good vantage point.

The guys came on just before 9 and played a very solid set. I said it about the last TDCC show I saw, and it held true again… I didn’t need a workout that day because I spent the whole show jumping and dancing around. They sounded really crisp and on, and just put on a really great show. The crowd was very into it, from where I was standing, and the guys kept thanking us for making it possible for them to do two nights headlining back to back sold out shows. They closed with What You Know, which of course got everyone moving. Just like every other TDCC show I’ve seen, it was over far too soon, but was so, so much fun while it lasted.

Two Door Cinema Club, Austin, TX 06/01/12

The TDCC show at Stubb’s Friday night was fantastic. Last time I saw the band (last March) was in a smallish, intimate club. The show was at an outdoor venue that’s considerably bigger, so it was missing that fun house party vibe the first show had. In spite of that, the band still sounded perfect, and we had a blast.

One of the things that continues to strike me about TDCC is how good they sound live. Their songs even take on a new urgency live, serving to whip the crowd in to a frenzy. I seriously didn’t see many people just standing there listening to the music…. the compulsion to dance is just too strong.

They played most of Tourist History (maybe all of it? Don’t remember exactly), and quite a few new songs from their forthcoming album. I don’t remember the names of any of those songs, but I can say that based on the songs they played, the new album should be excellent.

Having seen Two Door three times now, I know one thing for sure about their shows. They are just fun. So much fun. We all left the venue energized and with smiles on our faces. I can’t wait to hear the new album, and hope to catch them again in the not too distant future.

Song of the Day- You’re Not Stubborn- Two Door Cinema Club

This morning, I got tickets to see TDCC in June. My friend and I saw them last year in a smallish club; this time around, they’ll be at a bigger venue, but I’m sure we’ll still have a blast. Can’t wait!
