Curve Away

I'm Jen, a 30-something, music-loving mommy living in the coolest city in Texas.

About this blog:
Music, life, and more music. I love all kinds of music, but my taste seems to be more alternative/indie/folkish these days. That said, my favorite bands are as mainstream as they come. Coldplay and Snow Patrol feature heavily on this blog, so if you're not a fan of them, you may want to avoid me on Saturdays and Sundays.

I also have a health/fitness/exercise blog: move-eat-behappy.tumblr.com . Check it out if you like. :)

My musical preferences, according to my last.fm: I'm into indie, alternative, rock, folk and acoustic, including:
Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Band of Horses, Mumford & Sons, The Strokes, Death Cab for Cutie, The Swell Season, The Beatles, Tired Pony, Arcade Fire, R.E.M., Muse, The Avett Brothers, Stars, The Civil Wars, Metric, Ra Ra Riot, Travis, Noah And The Whale, Freelance Whales, Quiet Company, Florence + The Machine, Two Door Cinema Club, Vampire Weekend, Iron & Wine, The National, U2, Blind Pilot, Keane, Andrew Bird, Editors, Damien Rice, Ray LaMontagne, Phoenix, Glen Hansard, Fleet Foxes, The Shins, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, The xx, Feist, Broken Bells, The Temper Trap, Spoon, The Sundays, The Black Keys, English Chamber Orchestra, Imogen Heap, Regina Spektor, The Cure.

Song of the Day-Pretty Good Year- Tori Amos (1994)

Tori Amos is an artist that is inextricably linked to my college life and self. My suitemate was a HUGE Tori fan, and she was the one who really introduced me to her. We even went to see her live at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio in 1996. I hadn’t listened to this album in a looong time, but I still love it. Also, when I sing along, I sound just like her… well, I do in my head, at least.

Way Back Wednesday Song of the Day- Tear In Your Hand- Tori Amos

Someone (I think it was Anna) mentioned the song, Winter a day or two ago, and got me in the mood to re-listen to Little Earthquakes.  That album was introduced to me by my college roommate.  I haven’t listened to it in quite a while, but I’m happy to find I still love it.  Tori’s voice, the piano, the lyrics, everything.  I know Tori Amos is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think her melodies are beautiful and her songs are meaningful.  She is also an incredible live performer, as I had the pleasure of learning when I saw her live on the Boys for Pele tour.

all the world just stopped now
so you say you don’t wanna stay together anymore
let me take a deep breath babe
if you need me, me and neil’ll be
hangin’ out with the DREAM KING

neil says hi by the way
i don’t believe you’re leaving cause
me and charles manson like the same ice cream
i think it’s that girl
and i think there’re pieces of me
you’ve never seen
maybe she’s just pieces of me
you’ve never seen well

all the world is
all i am
the black of the blackest ocean
and that tear in your hand
all the world is DANGLIN’…
danglin’… danglin’ for me DARLIN’
you don’t know the power that you have
with that tear in your hand
that tear in your hand
